Piper Cherokee 140 (PA28-140) ORIGINAL PANEL (Analog gauges, VFR only) for X-Plane 11.30+
The Piper Cherokee 140 series of airplanes are fixed-wing, fixed-gear small GA airplanes produced by Piper Aircraft starting in 1961. Oddly, the Cherokee 140 was upgraded to a 150 HP engine very soon after initial production, and is sometimes referred to as the PA28-150. Although the Cherokee 140 had room for luggage or additional "child seats" behind the front seats, it was never practical or high-powered enough to carry four adults. The Cherokee 140 features the famous "Hershey Bar" wing planform that appeared in the earliest Piper models.
I became type-rated on the Cherokee family in 2016, and my primary trainer was tail number N3466K (1963), which is the example from which we produced the Cherokee 140 Original model for X-Plane. I have approximately 20 hours of PIC in the Cherokee 140, and I became familiar with how the airplane flies, and particularly, how the airplane lands. From this experiences, along with hundreds of photos and measurements and sound recordings, we produced the Original Panel version.
What is the "Original Panel?" Well, it is a replica of N3466K, which is truly a VFR trainer airplane, equipped with basic analog gauges, dual COM/NAV radios, transponder, and a single OBS for VOR navigation. There is no GPS in the panel, no DME, no ADF. Unless you carry a hand-held device with GPS and moving-map functionality, this airplane was strictly VOR navigation and pilotage for VFR flight. The Cherokee 140 Original is great for student pilots who wish to practice pilotage and basic VOR navigation skills. It is also a lot of fun to fly!
