Pichanaki is 525 meters above sea level on the Perene river (Rio Perené) between the towns of La Merced and Satipo. The full name is Bajo Pichanaki. The location is in the "selva alta" (high jungle), in the foothills of the Andes as they descend into the Amazon basin.

A small Airfield (SPPI) that closed in 2019 is still serving the town on special trips, but none of the usual airlines of the area go there anymore. Selva Air using a DC-3 flies in once every two weeks bringing supplies and some passengers but the flight is irregular at best.

Pumachuco Airfield (SPPC) is located in the Chincherois Province at an altitude of 3505 msns. It is considered a very dangerous airport due to the sorrounding mountains and its primary purpose was for it to be an emergency field but due to the dangerous location and short grass runway has been considered closed since late 2020. Use this field only in a extreme emergency.

Santa Cruz Airfield (SPSC) located in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba is hardly used anymore and has deteriorated quite a bit loosing all its grass surface. Still some locar air services do fly into the town bringing supplies and passengers. Cessnas 208 are usually seen unloding in the mornings. Located in the Western Mountain range of the Andes is bounded by the mountains that descend to the coast and the deep rivers that carve the mountains. Its lowest elevation is in the Saña River, near the small village of Pan de Azucar, 265 meters above sea level, and highest in the Cerro Cimarrones, 3,600 meters above sea level, south of the town of Pulán.
