The first supersonic trainer!
The Northrop T-38 Talon is a twin-engine, high-altitude, supersonic jet trainer. Adapted from an in-house lightweight fighter project (dubbed N-156F) that was aimed at the export market, Northrop was successful in the USAF competition to replace the aging T-33 trainer. The first prototype flew on 10 March 1959. Quickly adopted, it entered service in 1961. By the time production ended in 1972, 1,187 T-38s had been built.
Since its introduction, it is estimated that some 60,000 military pilots have trained on this aircraft! The USAF remains one of the few armed flying forces using dedicated supersonic final trainers, as most, such as the US Navy, use high subsonic trainers.
In 2003, 562 T-38s were still operational with the USAF and are currently undergoing structural and avionics programs (T-38C) to extend their service life to 2020. Improvements include the addition of a HUD, GPS, INS (Inertial Navigation System), and TCAS as well as PMP (a propulsion modification to improve low-altitude engine thrust). Many USAF variants (T-38A and AT-38B) are being converted to the T-38C.
Besides the USAF, USN and NASA, current T-38 operators include the German Air Force, the Republic of China Air Force, and the Turkish Air Force.
Introducing the Milviz T-38A Jet Trainer
Our original version of the T-38A Talon continues to be among the best military trainers available for your simulator. With detail-accurate modeling, rich, high definition textures, and a exquisite sound set, it is sure to offer a great flight simulation experience to all levels of pilots.
A Realistic Simulation
Experience the joy of flying this historic aircraft, complete with the accurate replication of those same buffet sounds and vibrations that many thousands of pilots around the world came to regard as the jet speaking to them. Enjoy a highly tuned flight model, realistic to the point where two real-world T-38 pilots gave it their personal seals of approval! They devoted hundreds of hours in careful testing, not stopping until our jet reminded them of fond memories in Air Training Command traffic patterns, flying a jet that would make any pilot green with envy!
Attention To Detail
We've created what we consider to be a highly replicative model both inside and out, and carefully textured it to bring out a strong sense of realism and immersion. The cockpit is faithful down to the last switch. Even the translucent gear handle looks (and operates) like the real thing. The details extend to the systems as well; if the gear fails to extend, you're able to pull the alternate gear handle just as in the real jet and let gravity do it's job!
A Complete Package
To ensure that you have all the tools necessary to enjoy a successful flight, we've included two flight manuals. The first is a quick start manual for those who just want to “kick the tires and light the fires” while the other is a very comprehensive Pilot’s Operating Handbook, over 240 pages in length, that is nearly a verbatim replication of the real-world T-38A manual. It is complete with actual performance charts, real-world normal and emergency procedures, plus exhaustive descriptions and operations of the cockpit avionics and equipment. It even provides the latest in actual USAF flight tests to help you obtain those picture-perfect landings that all pilots crave for.
Continually Updated
Here at Milviz, we have a tradition of strongly supporting our releases with updates and upgrades. Since the original release of the T-38A, we've not only of provided updates in order to fix issues as they've appeared, but along the way we've also added support for the many platform options now available.
We think this is one of the finest military jets available for FSX or P3D, and without question it offers the realistic look, feel, and performance of flying the real aircraft. Climb in and hook up! The sky beckons!
New! MVAMS Updating Capability
As of August 2017, our innovative MilViz Aircraft Management System (MVAMS) is now included with the T-38A package.
Our MVAMS utility runs outside the simulator providing the means to incrementally update individual products to quickly address issues and make fixes when required, without having to have our customers download and reinstall new versions of the aircraft. This allows our customers to quickly discover and install any pending updates for their aircraft, ensuring that they are completely up-to-date with our latest fixes, changes, or technology.
This release is our original, legacy version of the T-38A.
In the fall of 2015, we released a highly advanced version of the T-38, the first in our Advanced Series lineup. Differences between the versions relate primarily to the external FDE, custom systems replication and failure damage modeling; the version found on this page is based on legacy flight modeling and systems coding. The two versions share interior and exterior models, as well as custom lighting and sounds.
